Tire Stewardship BC is pleased to announce the return of tire collection events across the province. These initiatives provide residents with a convenient and responsible way to recycle their scrap tires. In 2024, these events helped recover over 14,000 tires, directly benefiting communities that requested collection support.

In addition to the First Nations Recycling Initiative (FNRI), which focuses on providing support for the collection of scrap tires along with other recyclable materials from First Nations communities, these events promote responsible tire disposal and raise awareness about BC’s tire recycling program.

Tire retailers who voluntarily participate in these events will host them as a way of giving back to their communities. Some locations will also offer special promotions, coupons, or even community BBQs.

Additional collection drives will take place at local or regional events. These events accept not only tires but a variety of other recyclable materials.

Liberty Tire transports all collected tires to its recycling plant in Delta, BC. The tires are then processed for reintegration into local recycling and production systems—supporting over 175 direct jobs. The facility extracts and repurposes the steel, fibre, and rubber components. The rubber is processed into crumb rubber, a valuable material used to manufacture innovative products such as flooring, surfaces, and farm mats made locally in BC.

Year-Round Tire Recycling Options

While tire collection events offer a convenient way to recycle scrap tires, residents don’t have to wait for an event to dispose of them responsibly. Many tire retailers voluntarily participate in the Return-to-Retailer (R2R) program, allowing the public to drop off old tires at no cost, year-round.
