Lions Park has successfully completed the installation of an accessible surface, made possible through the TSBC Community Grant Program. In 2022, the Accessibility and Age Friendly Committee, alongside the Town of Osoyoos, introduced an accessible swing. However, it became evident that further enhancements were necessary to ensure the playground’s accessibility for all users.

The installation of a rubber tire recycling surface now provides a secure and inclusive environment for children and families, guaranteeing that everyone can enjoy the park regardless of mobility challenges. Located at 8803 Spartan Drive, Osoyoos, BC, the pour-in-place rubber surface offers safety advantages, requires minimal maintenance, and boasts long-term durability.

“This project will benefit all children and families who frequent Lions Park. We have noticed a number of people, small children and adults who require better accessibility. The mother or father who is wheelchair-bound can take advantage of the rubber surface material and bring their children to the park. In Osoyoos, we also have a high number of seniors who are not always able to go to the park to enjoy the fresh air and cool summer breeze. They too can take advantage of this accessible feature with family and friends.”, shared the applicant.

Thanks to the TSBC Community Grant Program, approximately 165 car tires have been repurposed into this accessible playground surface.
