661 Recycled Tires Used For Arena Flooring in Prince George
The City of Prince George has recently announced the completion of the KIN 3 Arena renovation project, funded in part by the TSBC Community Grant Program, awarded in 2023. This initiative was aimed at replacing aging and damaged flooring throughout the arena, including dressing rooms, the referees’ room, hallways, and washrooms.
The highlight of the renovation project is the installation of recycled flooring made from 661 scrap tires collected and processed in British Columbia through Tire Stewardship BC’s tire recycling program. These recycled rubber tiles provide superior durability and accessibility for all users, improving community facilities around the province.
The KIN 3 Arena is an important hub for the residents of Prince George, hosting a diverse range of community events from trade shows to dance performances, and serving as the venue for numerous tournaments. The arena is also a gathering place for various community activities, including minor hockey, figure skating, curling, ringette, lacrosse, sledge hockey, adult recreational hockey, as well as events organized by School District #57.
