Tire Tips: How to Optimize Fuel Efficiency and EV Range as Cost of Living Continues to Climb in Canada
As the cost of living continues to increase and gas prices continue to rise, Canadian drivers are becoming more aware of the impacts of proper tire inflation on both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs. The Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC) has recently conducted a survey to gauge the attitudes and knowledge around this topic. Here’s a high-level summary of the survey results.
Survey Results: Knowledge and Attitudes Around Tire Inflation
- 77% of motorists know that proper tire inflation improves fuel economy, lessens emissions, and protects the environment
- 36% of drivers are considering an EV for their next vehicle purchase (for drivers 18-34, this number rises to 48%)
- 10.8% of all registered motor vehicles are EVs according to Statistics Canada
- 58% of drivers say that increasing financial pressures will force them to cancel or limit road trips this summer
- 81% of drivers believe higher cost of living and fuel has made proper tire inflation more important than ever
- 95% understand that proper tire inflation is essential to vehicle safety

On the findings, Carol Hochu, President of TRAC shares, “Our findings reveal a pressing need for more education about how to do tire care right. This is especially true among younger drivers, who show a heightened interest in EVs but lack essential tire maintenance knowledge. It’s time to empower all drivers with the know-how to keep their journeys both efficient and safe. Tire maintenance is one of the simplest and fastest car care tasks drivers can perform to keep their vehicles and families safe on the road.”
